Spike Lee and Giancarlo Esposito, long-time friends and collaborators, are working together once again in a national advertising campaign for Fiat's all-electric Fiat 500e. The campaign, titled "Italy in America, " features Lee directing and starring alongside Esposito, as they explore the Italian lifestyle and the benefits of the Fiat 500e. The unscripted campaign includes various creative elements across Fiat's social channels and was shot by cinematographer Matthew Libatique.
In a Zoom interview, Lee and Esposito discuss their long-standing friendship, their new projects, including Lee's film with Denzel Washington and Esposito's work on Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, and the threat of artificial intelligence to the world. Both express their enthusiasm for the Fiat 500e and the importance of representing their Italian heritage in the campaign.
