Square Enix’s Web3 game Symbiogenesis was originally planned to be discontinued in July 2025, but Sony has announced that the game will instead expand onto Sony’s Soneium blockchain. This development marks the arrival of the first Web3 game from a major publisher on Sony’s emerging Soneium blockchain. Sony stated that game studios and entertainment giants are increasingly selecting Soneium as a platform for collaboration, distribution, and engagement with a new generation of creators. As more IP-driven titles join the ecosystem, they are not only launching onchain but also opting for a platform where cross-game collaboration, interoperability, and creative ownership are fundamental pillars, according to Sony. However, the extent to which Symbiogenesis will receive new content remains unclear, since its existing content has not yet gained widespread popularity. Sony is also linking Symbiogenesis with other games in the ecosystem by offering rewards and status to players who complete its experience. Those who finish the Symbiogenesis journey will gain access to participate in Evermoon and Sleepagotchi, two other games hosted on Soneium. This initiative begins with the expansive world of Symbiogenesis, a blockchain-based narrative game developed by Square Enix. Sony describes Symbiogenesis as its flagship Web3 entertainment project, merging interactive storytelling, non-fungible token (NFT) ownership, and gameplay progression into a cohesive immersive experience. Players can collect unique character NFTs, unlock new episodes, and influence the game’s storyline. To date, only hundreds of fans have collected these NFTs. The initiative linking three distinct gaming universes presents players with a shared quest, collectible rewards, and a novel form of engagement through blockchain gaming on Soneium. Currently, players who complete a limited-time quest within Symbiogenesis will earn a commemorative NFT collectible on Soneium, which unlocks additional in-game advantages in Evermoon and Sleepagotchi. Symbiogenesis features an expansive narrative conveyed through 10, 000 character NFTs, six chapters, and over 1. 1 million words of interactive storytelling.

Each NFT unlocks new story content and player choices that influence the game world. Chapters one through four of this season’s quest serve as the gateway to the crossover. Evermoon Evermoon is an onchain MOBA offering fast-paced 5v5 battles, interoperable NFTs, and DeFi rewards, all built on Soneium. The Evermoon x Symbiogenesis collection includes limited-edition digital stickers providing perks such as profile customization and in-game rewards. Sleepagotchi Sleepagotchi LITE, a popular mini-app launched on LINE in collaboration with Soneium, previously topped Telegram charts with over a million users in its first month. It encourages daily engagement through simple gameplay, and as part of this initiative, players can unlock the Epic Rarity One-Horned Dragon, exclusive to those who participate in the Symbiogenesis quest.
