During an interview, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that he believes artificial general intelligence (AGI) surpassing human intelligence will likely be achieved within the next year or two. He also mentioned that the next version of Grok, an AI chatbot developed by his xAI start-up, is expected to be trained by May. Musk further expressed that the training of Grok's version 2 model has been hindered by a lack of advanced chips. He founded xAI as a competitor to OpenAI, a company he co-founded, and he has sued OpenAI for deviating from their original mission. Musk noted that training the Grok 2 model required 20, 000 Nvidia H100 graphics processing units, and future models will necessitate 100, 000 Nvidia H100 chips.

He emphasized that, while chip shortages have been a significant constraint for AI development, the availability of electricity will be crucial in the coming years. On the topic of electric vehicles, Musk reiterated that Chinese carmakers pose strong and competitive challenges to Tesla. He cautioned that, without trade barriers, Chinese rivals could outperform global competitors. Addressing a union strike in Sweden against Tesla, Musk expressed his belief that the situation has improved. Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norway's US$1. 5 trillion sovereign wealth fund, which is one of Tesla's largest shareholders, confirmed that they had met with Tesla's chair for an update on the situation.
