In winter 2025, a UCLA comparative literature class will incorporate a textbook, homework, and TA support, all produced by AI. The course covers literature ranging from the Middle Ages to the 17th century, using materials generated by Kudu, an advanced textbook platform initiated by UCLA physics and astronomy professor Alexander Kusenko. This class will be UCLA's first humanities course to use Kudu-developed resources. To create these materials, Professor Zrinka Stahuljak supplied Kudu with notes, PowerPoint presentations, and YouTube videos from past iterations of the course.

Typically, developing course content can take three to four months, but UCLA estimates that professors will only need to commit around 20 hours, for which Kudu compensates them. Professor Stahuljak believes this method will allow her and her TAs more time to engage with students and ensure uniform delivery of course content. Students can also interact with Kudu to ask questions about the material, with responses based solely on the professor's provided content rather than broader internet sources.
