Google has already teased new AI functionality for upcoming Feature Drops, even though the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro haven't launched yet. One of the new features is an on-device voice transcription called Recorder, which will soon be joined by a Summarize feature that works locally. On the Pixel 8 Pro, generative AI will be used to turn recorded audio into bullet points. This feature is expected to be released in December. In the "coming months, " the Pixel 8 Pro's on-device LLM will power "higher-quality" Gboard Smart Replies that have "better conversational awareness. " Additionally, the Pixel 8 Pro will have a gen AI image model that enables a Zoom Enhance feature. This feature will intelligently fill in the gaps between pixels and predict fine details, allowing for post-capture cropping and enhancing of image detail. Call Screen will soon offer Contextual Replies, which provide on-screen chips to respond to incoming calls.

For example, if someone calls to confirm an appointment, you might see options to "Confirm" or "Cancel appointment. " Call Screen will also be available on the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in a feature drop later this year. Assistant with Bard is another upcoming feature that allows for interactive storytelling, and it will be available for Pixel 8 users on iOS as well. Fitbit is also working on using generative AI to provide personalized coaching and dynamic workout recommendations. This program, called Fitbit Labs, will be available early next year, with Pixel phone owners having priority access. In the Google Home app, gen AI will be used to summarize home events into a streamlined view with bullet points. These features are expected to be released for subscribers next year.
