YouTube Music is currently testing a new feature utilizing generative AI that allows users to create a personalized radio station by entering a prompt. When this feature is rolled out to your device, an "Ask for music any way you like" card will appear in your Home feed, alongside the existing "Start radio" button. This card, which is purple/pink in color, is similar to the dedicated "Create a radio: Your music tuner" card that was introduced earlier this year in the Library tab. Once you select the prompt, a chat-based user interface will open, showing a field at the bottom where you can enter your music request. This fullscreen UI is labeled as an experiment and is distinguished by a badge in the top-right corner. You can also use voice commands to enter your prompts, with YouTube Music providing an explanation that the AI-generated responses are experimental and may vary in terms of quality and accuracy. It also advises against sharing confidential or personal information. YouTube Music offers a double line carousel of suggested prompts, including options like catchy pop choruses, epic soundtracks, upbeat pop anthems, and Moscow rock scene.
Additionally, there is a "Surprise me!" option available. After generating the radio station based on your prompt, YouTube Music will display the result using the existing playlist card. The station will be named after your prompt and will be labeled as "Created for you, " accompanied by a description. For example, if you request "Queer Hip Hop Beats, " YouTube Music may generate a station titled "Rhymes and flows from the heart, a celebration of queer pride in hip hop's art. " The first three songs from the station will be shown with buttons for play/pause, saving to your library, and an overflow menu. At this time, there is only one report of YouTube Music's AI radio creator, and it is not yet available on all devices. It would be interesting to see if YouTube Music eventually enables more users to test this feature by creating a youtube. com/new equivalent. Additionally, it is unknown whether accessing this feature will require a YouTube Premium subscription.
