AI's Potential in Military: Meta and Palantir's Strategic Collaboration

Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest among investors in the potential of artificial intelligence (AI). However, much of the conversation around AI seems repetitive. Software companies boast about AI-driven services that boost workplace productivity, while hardware and infrastructure companies control the foundational elements, such as data centers and semiconductor chips, which are critical for AI's functionality. Sign Up for Breakfast News: Get the latest market updates in your inbox every morning for free! Lately, I've noticed more focus on AI's role in the military. I was already aware that Palantir Technologies (NYSE: PLTR) plays a significant role where AI and the public sector meet. But a recent announcement from Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has led me to think differently about AI's potential in defense. Below, I discuss why Meta's partnership with Palantir is crucial and evaluate which stock might be a better investment as AI's military applications gain traction. How is Meta contributing to military advancements? A major development in AI has been the emergence of large language models (LLMs), with OpenAI's ChatGPT being among the most well-known.

Personally, I find using ChatGPT quite enjoyable. I rely on it for quick answers when I prefer not to search through Google, and sometimes I even use it to assist with writing software code for personal projects. What I didn’t realize is that LLMs offer more than just productivity boosts or quick answers. According to a recent press release from Meta, their Llama AI model is being integrated into the U. S. government and related private sector contractors. The announcement highlights that LLMs "have helped accelerate defense research and high-end computing, identify security vulnerabilities, and improve communication between different systems. "

Brief news summary

In recent years, investors have increasingly focused on the potential of artificial intelligence (AI), with discussions often revolving around its ability to enhance workplace productivity for software companies and its role in data centers and semiconductor chips for hardware firms. A key area of interest is AI's application in the military sector, particularly highlighted by Palantir Technologies' activities. A significant development in this space is the collaboration between Meta Platforms and Palantir. This partnership involves integrating Meta's Llama AI model into U.S. government and private sector projects, assisting in defense research, identifying security vulnerabilities, and improving system communication. This collaboration highlights AI's growing influence in defense, positioning both companies at the forefront of military AI innovations. With AI technology advancing, Palantir and Meta may present promising investment opportunities within the expanding military AI sector.
