Google AI may mix good and questionable ideas in the anticipated Pixel 9 - TechRadar

According to reports, Google is planning to consolidate existing and new machine learning (ML) features into a collection called Google AI for Pixel. An insider from the company spoke anonymously to Android Authority, revealing some potential developments. It's important to note that these details are based on a single screenshot of a menu and are therefore speculative. In terms of existing features, Circle to Search and Gemini, the current AI assistant on Pixel smartphones, will be integrated into this new Google AI platform. The report also mentions some new features. One of them is called "Add Me, " which seems to be a feature that ensures everyone is included in group photos. It's unclear what exactly this entails, but it might be an upgraded version of the AI tool known as Best Take, which combines multiple photos to create the best possible image and fix any awkward shots. "Add Me" could potentially allow users to be added to group photos even if they weren't originally present. The second new feature mentioned is called "Studio, " which appears to be an AI image generator. Google has been working on image-generating models, and this could be a mobile version that brings this technology to a wider audience. The final ML feature mentioned is Screenshots, which is potentially the most intriguing.

This tool uses artificial intelligence to analyze on-device screenshots and provide information about them to help answer questions. This sounds similar to Microsoft's Recall feature, which was heavily criticized for privacy concerns. Google's Screenshots, however, claims to be more privacy-focused and only works with the user's own screenshots. It adds metadata to the files, such as app names and web links, and processes the pictures locally with AI to allow users to search for specific images or get answers related to the content. It's possible that Google is consolidating these features under one name to better compete with rivals like Apple Intelligence and Moto AI, as smartphone manufacturers are increasingly incorporating AI technology into their devices. The Pixel series already has similar capabilities, but Google's AI services don't feel as cohesive as Apple Intelligence. Additionally, Google is missing important tools like an image generator and screenshot scanner. There is no information available on the release date of the Google AI collection, but the report suggests it may coincide with the launch of the Pixel 9.
